Santo Domingo is well connected beyond the United States. On a single Tuesday in October 2026, Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) had nonstop flights to and from Madrid, Panama City, Bogotá, Medellín, Mexico City, Guatemala City, Quito, Kingston and a ring of Caribbean islands, and Arajet's schedule that week added Lima, Buenos Aires, Cartagena, Aruba and St. Maarten. In the 2026-27 winter season, new nonstops arrive from Montreal and Rome, alongside the flights from Frankfurt and Paris-Orly.
This page goes region by region: the airlines, the routes, the scheduled flying times published by the airlines, and the seasonal flights. For flights from the US, see our page on flights from the United States. For passports, visas and the e-Ticket, see entry requirements.
Canada
Air Canada from Montreal
Air Canada adds a nonstop between Montreal and Santo Domingo for the 2026-27 winter. The route runs from December 10, 2026 to April 18, 2027, with two flights a week, which gives travelers from Quebec a nonstop to the Malecón in the cold months.
Outside the winter season
In mid-October 2026 there were no flights between Santo Domingo and Canada on the airport's boards, and Arajet's flight tracker showed no Santo Domingo flights to Toronto or Montreal that week, although the airline lists both cities among its destinations. Outside Air Canada's winter season, plan on one connection.
The easiest connections from Canada run through US hubs with several Santo Domingo flights a day: New York JFK and Newark, Boston, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. On October 13, 2026, JFK alone had five departures from Santo Domingo, and Miami had six. Our US flights page lists them by city.
Puerto Plata, Samaná and Punta Cana
Canada's airlines also fly to the Dominican Republic's beach airports. Air Transat is the largest Canadian carrier at Puerto Plata, with about 153,000 passengers, followed by WestJet with more than 113,000, and this winter Air Transat adds London, Ontario to Puerto Plata and WestJet adds Winnipeg to Puerto Plata. Air Canada adds Winnipeg to Punta Cana on Thursdays from December 3, 2026 to April 8, 2027.
If one of those flights is easier from your city, Punta Cana works as a gateway to Santo Domingo: the drive from Punta Cana International Airport to the Malecón is about 194 kilometers, a little over two hours on toll highways.
Paperwork for Canadians
Canadians do not need a visa for tourism. Through December 31, 2026, Canadians can enter for tourism with a passport valid for the length of the stay, although airlines may apply stricter rules. The tourist card is included in the airfare when you fly in, and the e-Ticket is a separate free form that you fill in online before you fly. Dual citizenship is legally recognized in the Dominican Republic.
Europe
Madrid
Madrid is served by two Spanish airlines, Iberia and Air Europa, and both fly the route nonstop. On October 13, 2026, Iberia's flights from Madrid were due at 2:50 p.m. and 6:55 p.m., and its return to Madrid was scheduled at 4:45 p.m. Air Europa's flight from Madrid was due at 6:15 p.m., and its return was scheduled at 9:10 p.m.
Those afternoon and evening arrivals suit a first dinner on the Malecón, and the evening departures leave a full last day in the city. For travelers coming from other Spanish or European cities, a connection in Madrid lines up with these flights.
Frankfurt
Condor flies nonstop from Frankfurt to Santo Domingo on Wednesdays and Sundays in the 2026-27 season, and it keeps the same days into summer 2027. The flight leaves Frankfurt in the afternoon and lands in Santo Domingo in the early evening, local time. Condor sells Economy, Premium Economy and Business on the route, a good fit for travelers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Paris-Orly
Air Caraïbes flies from Paris-Orly to Santo Domingo three times a week in its 2026-27 winter program. The flights are triangular: two a week also serve Samaná, and one a week also serves San Salvador in the Bahamas. Check your routing when you book, since the stop changes the total travel time. The same program flies Paris-Orly to Punta Cana up to seven times a week, daily from December 12, 2026.
Air France's flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to the Dominican Republic go to Punta Cana, three times a week from November 30, 2026. That is a fine option if you plan beach days first, with the two-hour drive to Santo Domingo afterward.
Rome
ITA Airways starts a seasonal nonstop from Rome Fiumicino to Santo Domingo on November 30, 2026. It begins with one flight a week, on Mondays, and goes to two a week, adding Sundays, from December 14 through the end of March 2027. The aircraft is an Airbus A330neo with Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins. Santo Domingo is ITA's first destination in the Caribbean.
The rest of Europe
From the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal and other countries without a nonstop, connect once: through Madrid with Iberia or Air Europa, through Frankfurt with Condor on Wednesdays and Sundays, through Paris-Orly with Air Caraïbes, or through Rome with ITA in the winter. A connection through a US hub such as New York or Miami is another option for British and Irish travelers.
If you connect through the United States, remember that even a change of planes there needs US travel authorization. Travelers from Visa Waiver Program countries need an approved ESTA or a US visa just to transit; on the ESTA form, write "In Transit" and your final destination in the US address field. Connections in Madrid, Frankfurt, Paris or Rome avoid that step.
Paperwork for Europeans
Nationals of Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and Ireland need no visa for a tourist trip. Through December 31, 2026, nationals of the European Union and the United Kingdom visiting for tourism can enter with a passport valid for the length of the stay; the base rule is six months of validity. The tourist card, US$10 or 10 euros, is included in tickets issued outside the Dominican Republic.
On customs, each adult can bring up to 5 liters of alcoholic drinks and one of 20 packs of cigarettes, 25 cigars or 200 grams of tobacco, plus gifts worth up to US$500 once every three months. Declare cash over US$10,000 or the equivalent in euros, on the way in and on the way out.
Dominican families in Spain and the rest of Europe
If you are Dominican and live in Spain, Italy or elsewhere in Europe, a few rules work differently for you. Dominican citizens do not need a tourist card, and they are exempt from the rule that foreign passengers must hold a return ticket. The temporary passport exception for European nationals does not apply to a Dominican traveling on a Dominican passport, so if you hold two passports, make sure the one you travel on meets the rules for that nationality.
Dominican passport holders over 18 can register once, for free, for the Autogates at Las Américas and use the e-gates instead of the regular passport line on later trips. Children who are Dominican citizens, including those born abroad with dual nationality, may need an exit permit to leave the country after a long stay or when traveling with one parent; our entry requirements page explains the cases, the fees and how long the permit takes.
Central America and Mexico
Panama
Copa Airlines connects Santo Domingo with its hub at Panama City Tocumen many times a day. On October 13, 2026, Copa had six departures from Santo Domingo to Panama, at 6:06 a.m., 8:47 a.m., 12:12 p.m., 12:42 p.m., 2:16 p.m. and 6:41 p.m. If your city in Central or South America has no nonstop to Santo Domingo, a connection in Panama on Copa is worth checking, and Copa passengers have their own Copa Club lounge at Las Américas, in Terminal B.
Guatemala
Arajet flies between Santo Domingo and Guatemala City. In the week of October 13, its flights were scheduled to leave Santo Domingo at 4:00 p.m. or 6:10 a.m. depending on the day, with a scheduled time of 3 hours 30 minutes.
Mexico
Two airlines fly to Mexico City, to two different airports. Aeroméxico flies to Mexico City International (MEX); on October 13 its departure was scheduled at 11:00 a.m., and the inbound flight was due at 6:42 a.m. Arajet flies to Felipe Ángeles International (NLU), with an evening departure from Santo Domingo at 7:59 p.m. that is scheduled to land at 10:34 p.m. local time.
Arajet's flight tracker showed no Santo Domingo to Cancún flights in mid-October 2026.
South America
Colombia
Colombia has the most choice in South America. To Bogotá, Avianca had two departures on October 13, at 12:45 p.m. and 6:50 p.m., and Arajet flies daily, usually in the early morning. Arajet's morning flight is scheduled at 2 hours 40 minutes.
To Medellín, Arajet flies once or twice a day and Wingo flies as well; on October 13, Arajet's departures were scheduled at 7:45 a.m. and 2:10 p.m., and Wingo's at 4:14 p.m. Arajet's morning Medellín flight is scheduled at 2 hours 35 minutes. Arajet also flies to Cartagena on some days, a scheduled 2 hours 2 minutes.
Colombians need no visa for a tourist trip to the Dominican Republic, and Colombia is on the list of nationalities that can use a passport valid for the length of the stay through December 31, 2026.
Ecuador
LATAM Airlines Ecuador connects Quito with Santo Domingo on a flight that also serves Miami. On October 13, flight XL 215 was due from Miami at 5:15 a.m. and scheduled to continue to Quito at 6:25 a.m.
Peru
Arajet flies between Santo Domingo and Lima, on a late-evening schedule: in the week of October 13, the flight was scheduled at 9:00 p.m. on some days and 10:15 p.m. on another, arriving in Lima around 1:00 or 2:15 a.m. The scheduled time is 5 hours.
Argentina
Arajet flies between Santo Domingo and Buenos Aires Ezeiza on selected days. In the week of October 13, flight DM 3260 was scheduled to leave Santo Domingo at 6:13 p.m. and reach Buenos Aires at 3:23 a.m., a scheduled 8 hours 10 minutes.
Brazil, Chile and the rest of South America
Arajet lists São Paulo, Santiago de Chile, Montevideo, Guayaquil and Córdoba among its destinations, but its flight tracker showed no flights from Santo Domingo to those cities in mid-October 2026. Arajet calls Punta Cana its new hub, so from these cities, check for a nonstop to Punta Cana and the two-hour drive, or connect in Panama with Copa or in Bogotá.
Travelers coming from the Brazilian states of Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo need an international yellow fever vaccination certificate dated at least 10 days before arrival.
Paperwork for Latin American travelers
For a tourist trip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lookup shows no visa required for nationals of Mexico, Colombia, Panama, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Jamaica.
Through December 31, 2026, nationals of Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador visiting for tourism can also enter with a passport that stays valid for the length of their stay, instead of the usual six months of validity.
Venezuela
Venezuelan nationals need a visa for a tourist trip, a rule in place since December 16, 2019, unless they hold permanent residence in, or a valid multiple-entry visa from, the United States, the Schengen area, Canada or Great Britain. Travelers coming from Venezuela, or who were there in the 14 days before arrival, also need a yellow fever vaccination card if they are aged one or older.
The Caribbean
Puerto Rico and Jamaica
San Juan is served by JetBlue twice a day and by Arajet on some days. Arajet also flies to Kingston, Jamaica, with a morning departure from Santo Domingo scheduled at 1 hour 38 minutes.
Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten
Arajet flies to Aruba and St. Maarten. In the week of October 13, its Aruba flights were scheduled at 1 hour 20 minutes and its St. Maarten flights at 1 hour 27 minutes. Curaçao had a flight on Red Air arriving in Santo Domingo on October 13.
Sky High's island network
Sky High, a Dominican airline, flies from Las Américas to a long list of nearby islands, with more than 72 direct flights a week at the airport. Its timetable lists flights from Santo Domingo to Anguilla, Antigua, Bonaire, St. Kitts, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Thomas and Havana, and farther south to Georgetown in Guyana and Paramaribo in Suriname.
Some sample local times from that timetable, leaving Santo Domingo: Anguilla at 9:55 a.m., arriving at 11:15 a.m.; Antigua at 9:00 a.m., arriving at 10:30 a.m.; Bonaire at 1:40 p.m., arriving at 3:05 p.m.; Guadeloupe at 2:40 p.m., arriving at 4:15 p.m.; Martinique at 2:40 p.m., arriving at 4:20 p.m.; and St. Kitts at 6:10 p.m., arriving at 8:10 p.m. Flights to Havana leave in the morning. On October 13, the Anguilla flight was on the departures board at 9:55 a.m.
For travelers from the French Antilles, Sky High's Guadeloupe and Martinique flights make Santo Domingo a short trip, and Air Caraïbes flies both islands to Paris-Orly, up to 21 times a week to Pointe-à-Pitre and 18 to Fort-de-France this winter.
Turks and Caicos and the British Virgin Islands
interCaribbean Airways flies from Santo Domingo to Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos and to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. On October 13, its flights were scheduled at 2:00 p.m. and 2:05 p.m.
Cuba and Haiti through La Isabela
Some regional flights use Santo Domingo's second airport, La Isabela (JBQ), rather than Las Américas. On October 12, 2026, La Isabela's arrivals board listed Air Century from Santiago de Cuba and from St. Maarten, and Sunrise Airways from Cap-Haïtien in Haiti. La Isabela is about 21 kilometers from the Malecón, around 24 minutes by car. Sky High flies to Havana from Las Américas.
La Isabela sits on the La Isabela road. Drivers coming from the city follow the signs for Aeropuerto Internacional de La Isabela, and the exit is on the right after the Sabana Perdida area. The airport is reached by private car or taxi, so arrange a ride ahead or take a taxi to the Malecón.
Cuban and Haitian nationals need a visa for the Dominican Republic, unless they hold US, Schengen, Canadian or British residence or a valid multiple-entry visa from one of those places.
Arajet, the Dominican airline
Many of the routes on this page belong to Arajet, the Dominican airline that has used Santo Domingo as its hub since 2022 and now runs a second hub at Punta Cana. From Santo Domingo it flew in mid-October 2026 to Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, Lima, Buenos Aires, Guatemala City, Mexico City, Kingston, Aruba and St. Maarten, as well as to Newark, Boston, Miami and San Juan. It sells its fares in three levels, Smart, Comfort and Extra, so compare what each includes before you book.
Its week from Santo Domingo in mid-October 2026 shows how often each city is served: Bogotá and Medellín every day, Medellín twice on some days; Guatemala City on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; Lima on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday; Mexico City (Felipe Ángeles) on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; Kingston on Tuesday and Saturday; Aruba on Wednesday and Sunday; St. Maarten on Wednesday and Thursday; Cartagena on Friday and Sunday; and Buenos Aires on Friday. Days can change with the season, so check your date before planning around a flight.
Because so many of these flights pass through Santo Domingo, the city also works as a stop between the Americas. A traveler going between, say, Bogotá and Newark can book the two Arajet flights with a few nights on the Malecón in the middle.
Money, phones and language
Most prices in the Dominican Republic are in pesos. Tourist businesses often take US dollars at a less favorable rate than a bank, so the best plan is to withdraw pesos from an ATM as you go. At Las Américas, the Banreservas and Globocambio exchange booths are open 24 hours, which helps after a long-haul arrival.
The country code is +1, the same as the United States and Canada. Claro and Altice have stores at the airport, and a local SIM costs less than US$5 with your passport, which saves you the high cost of roaming.
If your Spanish is limited, you will manage: in the big cities and most tourist areas, staff in hotels, restaurants and tourist services, and tour guides, speak English as well as other languages.
If you are flying in from Canada or northern Europe in the winter, pack a light layer: mornings and evenings get cool from November to March, though the days stay warm.
Going on to the villa in Baní
Guests booked at our pool villa in Boca Canasta, Baní, fly into Las Américas as well. The villa sleeps 16 and is about 87 kilometers from the airport, around 1 hour 10 minutes by car in normal traffic, so a family meeting from several countries can gather at the airport and drive out together. Our airport page has the route, the taxi fare and the options for larger groups.

Booking tips
- Fill in the free e-Ticket online before you reach the airline counter, for both the flight in and the flight out.
- Book a return or onward flight. Airlines must check that foreign passengers have one before boarding.
- Check visa rules for your nationality with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lookup before you buy, especially if you are Venezuelan, Cuban, Haitian, Chinese or Indian.
- On triangular routes, such as Air Caraïbes from Paris-Orly, check whether your flight stops in Samaná or San Salvador on the way.
- If your best fare is into Punta Cana, budget a little over two hours by road to the Malecón.
- Do not worry about an evening arrival. The Madrid flights land in the late afternoon and evening, and most of our Malecón apartments have self check-in with a lockbox.
When you land
From any of these flights you arrive at Las Américas, go through immigration and customs, and take a taxi, an Uber or a booked transfer to the Malecón, about 33 kilometers and half an hour away in normal traffic. Our airport to the Malecón page has the fares, the route and the phone numbers, and the Flying in page covers both of the city's airports.
Once your flight is set, choose your apartment on the Malecón.
